Catherine Stewart was born in Glasgow on 1 July 1788 to parents John Stewart, a Wright, and his wife Janet Penny. She married John Murison who was a Muslin Manufacturer there and they had one son - John Stewart Murison. It seems likely that Catherine was widowed at a young age as nothing more has been found about her husband. She took a keen interest in her son's activities as a Commercial Traveller and moved to Stonehaven to live near him after his marriage to Jeannie Robertson. When Jeannie died in 1862 it seems likely that Catherine moved into Belmont House to look after her young grandsons, and later followed her son and grandsons back to Glasgow. She outlived her son by 2 years and died in Glasgow on 16 April 1875.
